There was, for a little bit, a point in time in which Pokémon was created by people looking to recreate their childhood experiences exploring nature, catching bugs, and spending allowances on Gashapon toys, in the medium of video games, and, at some point Pokémon stopped being that instead became a franchise made by people looking to make the next Pokémon, the games became more and more insularly inspired by itself, whether or not you think this is a good or a bad thing is entirely up to you, but it is ultimately something that happened. All of this is to say that, while Pokémon Snap is a game where “on rails shooter” means you shoot a camera instead of a gun, it is also a game that must’ve made by people who had way too much fun playing with their dad’s new camera and probably got yelled at for wasting all the expensive film taking too many pictures of an uninteresting beetle they were fixated on, so they made a game where you could waste all the film you wanted on whatever stupid bug you felt like.
